After home heating, water heating is the second largest natural gas user in your home. Upgrading to a more efficient water heater can reduce your natural gas use and help the environment. We recommend that you work with your contractor or retailer to select the water heater that will best fit your needs.

These rebates are not intended for new construction. New construction is defined as being built in the last two years.

UEF: Uniform Energy Factor

Starting June 12, 2017, the Department of Energy (DOE) implemented new energy efficiency standards for water heaters. The old metric was Energy Factor, or EF. The new metric is UEF or Uniform Energy Factor. They are not the same. Effective 9/1/2018, all rebates are issued based on the AHRI database certification UEF criteria.

Please reference all rebate requirements prior to installation to ensure eligibility. To apply for a rebate, download and fill out the water heating rebate application. Indirect water heaters are not eligible for rebate.

Funding is limited and can change or end at any time. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you are a nonprofit, new construction organization such as a Community Housing Development Authority, Housing Development Agency or Habitat for Humanity serving the low-income community, Minnesota Energy Resources supports your community efforts with enhanced rebates through low income new construction rebates.
