Minnesota Cold Weather Rule

The Minnesota Cold Weather Rule (CWR) protects you from natural gas shutoffs from Oct. 15 to April 15. Customers who enter into a payment agreement with us and continue making specified monthly payments by their due date will be protected from any collection activity or natural gas service shutoff during the CWR period. All interested customers must apply for CWR protection.

Who owns what?

We own the natural gas mains, service lines and meters. A customer is responsible for inspecting, maintaining and locating all piping beyond the meter, including pipe running underground to pool heaters, grills, detached garages or other outdoor appliances.

Rewarding Responders Grant recipients announced

This year, Minnesota Energy Resources and its charitable giving organization, the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation, awarded almost $12,000 through our Rewarding Responders Grants.

The winners include:

  • Ada Volunteer Fire Department – Multi-gas detector
  • Cannon Falls Fire Department – Car stabilization kit
  • Hinckley Fire Department – High-quality flashlights
  • Hollandale Fire Department – Thermal imaging camera
  • Mora Area Fire Department – Training technology
  • New Richland Fire Department – Multi-gas detector
