Requirements
- Audit must comply with standards of ASHRAE Level 2 energy survey and analysis.
- To qualify for rebate, audit cost must be paid in full to auditing company.
- Energy efficiency improvements are no longer required to receive audit rebate.
- Audit rebate application must be submitted and will be processed at same time as C/I rebate application.
- Complete copy of audit report and proof of payment for audit must accompany application.

You may choose any qualified auditor, provided the auditor can meet criteria for auditors and energy audits provided below.

For auditors
Only ASHRAE Level 2 audits completed by auditors meeting the following criteria qualify for a rebate:
- Energy audits may be offered by qualified individuals or firms.
- Firms offering energy audits must provide qualification documentation for the individual performing the audit.
- All individuals who perform energy audits must be certified by the Association of Energy Engineers as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or a Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), or be licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Minnesota. Minnesota Energy Resources may, at its sole discretion, consider alternative certifications. Auditors also should indicate any special training or qualifications related to energy efficiency.
- Auditors must indicate any limitations or restrictions in their scope of services.
- Auditors must disclose if they have any affiliations with equipment manufacturers, vendors, distributors, installation contractors or energy services contractors (ESCOs).
Energy audits must include the following information to qualify for a rebate:
- Facility name and address, natural gas utility account numbers, customer contact information and audit date.
- Auditor’s name, contact information and proof of certification as a CEM/CEA and/or a Minnesota PE license number. Other certifications may be included as applicable. Auditors must include a disclosure for any affiliations with equipment manufacturers, vendors, distributors, installation contractors or energy services contractors (ESCOs).
- Summary of client's annual energy consumption by month.
- Facility description, including square footage, building envelope, major energy-consuming equipment, operation hours, occupant number and description of what is done in the facility.
- Summary of important findings along with any supporting data, measurements, drawings, etc.
- List of recommendations for increasing energy efficiency, which may include equipment replacement and upgrades, improved maintenance practices, operational changes and waste minimization.
- Estimated capital costs and annual energy savings for each recommended energy-efficiency measure.
Reminders
- Check rebate requirements on application prior to service to ensure eligibility. We must receive application within 60 days of service.
- Funding is limited and can change or end at any time. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
